Kathmandu: Arrival Date for all Indian Passport Holders

Situated at a height of 1300m, Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal. All Indian passport holders should plan to reach destination by 2PM. An Evening Orientation Session will be conducted by Swami Mahesh to discuss about the preparations and plan for the trip. The participants will be provided with duffel bags and down jackets at the end of the session. Stay in a comfortable and luxurious 5 star hotel.

Sightseeing in and around Kathmandu

A morning Yoga session will be conducted to learn special techniques of how to adjust to the high altitude during the pilgrimage. After breakfast, a guided tour will be conducted in and around Kathmandu to see the various holy sites - including Boudhanath and Jal Narayana Temple. After that, we will return to the hotel for lunch and rest.

In the evening, we will go to the famous Shiva Temple to witness the popular Aarati (evening fire ceremony), which is a spectacular sight during the evening. Overnight stay will be in 5 star hotel.

Kathmandu to Lhasa (3650m/ 12000ft)

On 22nd August, the third day of the trip, we will fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa by afternoon flight. The whole day will be spent in acclimatization - adjusting to the high altitude conditions in Lhasa. Relax and spend the day in luxurious hotel

Lhasa Sightseeing

Lhasa is renowned for the Potala Palace. We will climb the stairs of Mar Po Ri Hill to visit this magnificent palace. This place is also the best view point for seeing Lhasa city. This palace was built in the 17th century and preserved under UNESCO world heritage site. Inside the colossal palace lies the private quarters of the Dalai Lama along with murals, chapels and tombs.

We will also visit the Jokang Temple which is considered as the most sacred temple in Tibet. We also take a quick trip to Barkhor Market. Overnight will be spent in a 5 star hotel.

Lhasa to Shigatse (3800m/ 12500ft, 275km drive)

Today we will visit Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet. In the famous Tashilumpo Monastery, we will see the Giant Buddha. Overnight stay in a 4 star hotel.

Shigatse to Saga (4640m/ 15200ft, 450km drive)

After having breakfast, we will leave for Saga from Shigatse. The drive is for 8 hours. Enroute we will see the mightly view of Mt. Everest north face. Overnight stay in a 4 star hotel in Saga.

Saga to Lake Manasarovar (4600m, 15000ft, 480km drive)

After having breakfast at Saga, we depart for the holy lake Manasarovar. By late afternoon, we drive through the green pastures, sand dunes and gigantic valleys and come to see for the first time the blue water of Lake Manasarovar. We do a parikrama around the lake by driving. According to Hindu and Buddhist Cosmology, along this lake's shores flow the four great rivers of the Indian subcontinent - The Brahmaputra, Sutlej, the holy Ganges and Indus. You will get to see the amazing view of Mt. Guru Mandhata on this very day. The mountain is situated to the south and Mt. Kailash is situated to the north. From there, we go to visit the Trugo monastery, followed by visit to the Chiu Monastery where we will stay overnight. The hike to Chiu Monastery is essential to get acclimatized to the high altitude. We also get to see the beautiful panoramic view of Mt. Kailash from this place. Overnight stay will be in a guesthouse.

Manasarovar to Darchen (4600m, 15000ft, 40km drive)

In the morning, private bathing tents will be set up by the shores of lake Manasarovar for taking a holy bath with the waters of Manasarovar, which is performed by most pilgrims before the parikrama around the holy Mt. Kailash. After this, we will perform a fire ceremony with Havan beside lake Manasarovar. Then we head to the base camp of Kailash which is located in Darchen.

Darchen to Diraphuk (5080m, 16700ft, 13km hike)

We begin our hike around Kailash from Tarbuche / Yama Dwar area. As we go around our route, we witness the multiple stupas and the sky burial site of 84 Mahasiddhas. Our hike begins from Yama Dwar, the Gate of the God of Death and we henceforth start the Parikrama. We also witness the numerous waterfalls and view the colossal western face of Mt. Kailash. After approximately 6 hours of trek, we arrive at Diraphuk monastery where we will spend our night at a lodge of pilgrims. The North face of Mt. Kailash is visible from Diraphuk. We will take a short hike to view the north face of Kailash.

Diraphuk to Zhutul Phuk (4820m, 15800ft, 22km hike)

Although this is the hardest day of the trek, it is also the holiest. As we hike, we will cross the Shivasthali where there are stone collections draped with clothes which are given as offerings to God by Tibetan pilgrims. We hike further and reach the Dolma La Pass (5700m, 18700ft) which is the highest point in the yatra. From there, we will be able to view a magnificent sight of the Gaurikund from above. We will take a short break to put prayer flags at this point and proceed to reach Zhutul Phuk at a fairly lower altitude of 4820m. In Zhutul Phuk, there is a 'Cave of Miracles' where the greatest Tibetan Yogi Milarepa meditated and got the power to fly. We will have magnificent views of mountains, waterfalls, caves, etc on our way. Overnight stay will be in a guesthouse.

Zhutul Phuk to Saga (10km hike, 480km drive)

This will be our last day of the parikrama around Mt. Kailash. We will slowly descend to a point in an expansive valley from where the bus will pick us up. We will halt at Darchen where we will have lunch. After that, we head back to Saga where we will stay in a 4 star hotel.

Saga to Shigatse (450km drive)

We will have morning breakfast at Saga. After that, we will drive back to Shigatse. We will get a glorious view of Mt. Everest along our way. We stay overnight in a 5 star hotel.

Shigatse to Lhasa (275km drive)

Lhasa is indeed a big city in Tibet where there are various things to see and culture variations to learn. After breakfast at Shigatse, we will drive to Lhasa. In the evening, you will be free for shopping or sightseeing in Lhasa. We will stay in a 5 star hotel.

Lhasa to Kathmandu

Indeed it will be a great journey till now and you will get to experience some amazing things throughout your journey. In the afternoon, we will take a flight back to Kathmandu. Please note that there is a pretty big timezone difference between Lhasa and Kathmandu- around 2hr 15min. We will stay in a hotel in evening and have our farewell dinner.

Transfer to Airport / Optional Muktinath Trip

We will bid goodbyes on this day after having such a beautiful trip with the team. You will be picked up and transferred to the airport to end this amazing trip for Kailash Yatra. Although we will part our ways, we will take with us some magical experiences and wonderful memories to share with everyone. And not to forget some beautiful friends!
